New Focus ST is a thrilling but practical family car

Ford’s new Focus ST hot hatch, with advanced sports technologies, will go on sale in the summer in five- door and wagon body styles.

The car was developed by Ford Performance to deliver nimble hot-hatchback thrills in a stylish, comfortable and practical family car. It offers ‘the most responsive and agile Focus ST driving experience ever - on road and track’. Yet the car has been developed to be as comfy as it is fun-to-drive and features ‘an upscale interior that balances everyday practicality and a true sporty driving experience’. The wagon has a maximum 1,653 litre luggage capacity and a boot space that can comfortably take a large dog crate.

Ford say the Focus ST also benefits from the comprehensive range of sophisticated Ford driver assistance technologies that have helped the new Focus win 13 awards and a 5-star safety rating since going on sale in 2018. Technologies include Adaptive Cruise Control, Ford’s Adaptive Front Lighting System, Active Park Assist 2, Ford’s first Head-u display to be offered in Europe, Evasive Steering Assist, and Ford’s SYNC3 connectivity system that allows drivers to control audio, navigation and climate functions plus connected smartphones using simple voice commands supported by an 8-inch colour touchscreen. FordPass Connect turns the car into a mobile WiFi hotspot with connectivity for up to 10 devices.

A new engine line-up allows drivers up to 12 per cent more power and 17 per cent more torque compared with the previous generation Focus ST. Powerful, free-revving powertrains include a 280hp, 420Nm, 2.3 EcoBoost petrol and a 190hp 2.0 EcoBlue diesel with 400Nm. This petrol engine can sprint from 0-100km/h in under six seconds

Customers can choose between a six-speed manual or a quick-shifting new seven-speed automatic transmission. Selectable Drive Modes technology is introduced to the Focus ST for the first time, enabling drivers to adjust the vehicle’s character to suit the driving scenario.

Exterior colour choices which emphasise the Focus ST’s dynamic styling include exclusive Ford Performance Blue and Orange Fury.

The new Focus ST will be manufactured with best-ever craftsmanship and quality following a €600 million investment at Ford’s Saarlouis assembly plant in Germany.
